Dr. Lynn-Marie Nantes took “the botox course” in Halifax, Nova Scotia in October 2025 and earned her “Certificate of Completion” granted by Aesthetics Training Canada after completing in-person and didactic training. She then continued her training with an online didactic ProTox course with the UK’s Dr. Tim Pearce. Dr. Nantes then completed online courses with THMA Consulting and worked one-on-one with a THMA Consulting private mentor during in-person patient sessions.
Dr. Lynn-Marie Nantes is very excited to introduce and incorporate this dedication to new training and a newly added scope of dentistry in PEI into Rochford Family Dental's offerings. As a council member on the PEI Dental College, Dr. Nantes helped create the neuromodulator guidelines. Dr. Nantes holds a Level 3 permit from the Prince Edward Island Dental College.
We are now booking patients for both esthetic (upper and lower face) and therapeutic treatments (TMJ symptom relief treatments!)
FAQs
What is neuromodulator?
A neuromodulator is an injectable prescription medication. It is a purified protein neurotoxin derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is used medically and cosmetically to temporarily weaken muscles by blocking nerve signals. With muscles underneath skin moving less, this reduces wrinkles (such as frown lines “11s between the eyebrows”, forehead wrinkles and crow's feet around the eyes) and helps relieve symptoms for TMD (jaw muscle pain).
How do they work?
Neuromodulators are injectable agents injected specifically into certain muscles to control their movement.
- For facial muscles: it means lines of expression (like a wrinkled forehead when we look up) or a deep frown between our eyebrows can be softened, relaxed, and smoothed!
- For therapeutic use: relaxing the masseter and temporalis muscles allows for less clenching and tension in these muscles.
Where can we neuromodulators be used?
- Upper face: forehead, between eye brows for frown lines, crows feet. Upper face treatments are focused towards creating a more refreshed, smoother, and relaxed look.
- Lower face: lip flips, platismal bands, nefritetti lifts, DAO muscle (corner of mouth), chin dimpling. Lower face treatments are focused towards relaxing the muscles that pull your face down.
- Therapeutic: TMJ pain
Neuromodulator treatment in the muscles associated with TMD pain is not a treatment of the condition and will not change the position/angle/relationship of the TMJ (tempomandibualr joint). It is a symptom relief treatment only. It simply relaxes the tense muscles and helps with the pain.
Who can’t use neuromodulators?
You can not undergo Botulinum Toxin treatment if you:
- Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding
- Have a history of neuromuscular disorders (e.g., Myasthenia Gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, ALS, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis)
- Are allergic to Botulinum Toxin or any of its components including human albumin
- Have an active infection at the intended injection sites
- Taking tetracycline or any aminoglycoside antibiotics
Neuromodulators also have their limits in what they can achieve. This can be discussed in a personalized consultation.

For Therapeutic Masseter TMJ Symptom Relief
Patients who are not current dental patients of Dr. Nantes will need to have their current radiographs forwarded to Rochford Family Dental for limited treatment.
If you do not have a current dentist, you must have a New Patient Dental Exam with Dr. Nantes to have your teeth checked before this treatment.
These guidelines are specifically stated by the PEI Dental College’sAdvanced Facial Therapies and Adjunctive Considerations Standard for Neuromodulator use.
